Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kimberley Driscoll jointly issued a
citation to honor the Spring Festival Gala for its outstanding contribution to community culture and
diversity.
Looking back, we have witnessed and contributed to the significant history of the Lunar New Year in
Boston:
On February 15, 2023, Boston officially passed a bill designating the Lunar New Year as a legal
holiday. This landmark decision laid a solid foundation for the development of the community's
multiculturalism.
In December 2024, the Lunar New Year and its celebration activities were officially inscribed on the
UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This is not only the highest recognition of
its cultural value but also marks the universal significance of this traditional festival resonating
globally.
On February 15, 2026, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey signed a government proclamation,
declaring February 15, 2026, as Lunar New Year Day in Massachusetts.
